Wreck-It Ralph Review

I know, two Disney posts in a row crazy, don't worry this isn't becoming a Disney only blog.

It was only a matter of time till Disney ventured their way into the world of video games and Wreck-It Ralph does a pretty good of representing that world.

The Good: There are video game references everywhere if you really wanna see them all you would have to see it more than once (There are so many in the "Game Central Station Area" and they go by real fast). This is where Disney does it right everything from Pong to Metal Gear Solid get's at least a nod in this film, and it made it almost a game to try and see them all. Sarah Silverman's character Vanellope von Schweetz steals the show though, she's such a fun, lovable, goofy character that you can't help but like and her and Ralph's friendship becomes the main force for the movie, causing you to care for them both rather than just Ralph. The movie also excels in the way Disney usually does with young Humor and of course a moral lesson in the end.

The Bad: Wreck-It Ralph however, does fall short in regards of variety. When I first saw the trailer for this movie I expected Ralph to be jumping through a ton of games but in the movie for the most part it's only three. The movie stays in the Mario Kart rip off game "Sugar Rush" for about 2/3 of the movie and after awhile you get sick of the same sugary scene. Also the movie is very predictable and feels like Disney has slapped it's usual pattern of movies into it (If you've seen a Disney film before you'll see what I mean). Finally the ending of the film in very abrupt it builds for a long time and once you get to the end it kinda leaves you with still some questions left.

So lets cut to the chase should you see Wreck-It Ralph? Yes and you will have to see it more than once to catch all the references, but if you wait until it's out on DVD you won't be missing much.

Logan's Score: 3.75 out of 5

  1. Wreck-It-Ralph was a really fun movie! I loved Vanellope, and the video game reference were really cool. Is there a site that lists all of the references? It would be nice to know all of them. Also, I agree that Ralph should have traveled to other video games before ending up in Sugar Rush. I would have liked to see him go into Kingdom Hearts. What other video games should have been featured?

  2. I doubt they would have gone into Kingdom Hearts since it's a console game but that would have been fun to see. I would have liked to see Mario featured more so or at least one Legend of Zelda reference...I'm sure Imdb.com has a list of the references in the movie but idk it it's a full list.
