The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey: Review

Peter Jackson has returned to Middle Earth to tell J.R.R. Tolkien's story that set-up the Lord of the Rings. It has been in theaters for awhile now but most theaters should still have it showing. But the question is was this adaptation any good?

The Hobbit is a great movie, however the pace near the beginning of the film was so slow that you could have run to the next theater over watched half of that movie, then ran back and they still would have been discussing in Bilbo's house. That's not to say it's not a good story, it's a great one but don't go expecting the constant action of Lord of the Rings. If you read the book (which I did) before you go see the movie these parts are more interesting and sets up a lot of what happens in Lord of the Rings, but for first timers to the story it might be hard to bare. The acting, costumes, music, sets and scenery are amazing, in fact the movie over all is visually stunning.  The only problem I saw with visuals is Jackson's use of CGI has definitely increased since Lord of the Rings which makes some characters look too fake for my liking (Gorkil the Goblin King in particular). The problem with this movie simply is that because Jackson set the Hobbit up to be a trilogy again this one is mainly setting up for the next two which will definitely have a faster pace (I hope). However by the end of the movie it's just as good as Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies, but as I said, it's at the end so just as the plot picks up we have to wait for the next part.

So should you go see The Hobbit? Yes you should, but if you are new to the story be prepared for a very slow beginning for an almost 3 hour movie...

I give the Hobbit 4.5 Dwarves out of 5 if you read the book and 3.5 if you haven't.
